How to reach Matheran !!!!!!!

Matheran can be reached by train, bus or private vehicles. One may take a train going towards Karjat on the Mumbai Central railway line and get down at Neral Railway Station. Neral-Matheran is approximately 21 km.

From Neral station you may take a toy train till matheran or Neral-Matheran taxi till the dasturi car park. The tickets to toy train are limited and only the lucky ones may get through. However, reservation a day before is available at the Neral station.

This toy train was built by Sir Adamjee Peerbhoy. There are four pair of trains running between Neral-Matheran. However, during monsoon i.e. June to September, only one pair of train is operational.

The journey upwards to matheran is mind boggling through the zig zag roads, food vendors jumping all around to sell drinks and eatables and groups of monkeys staring at you while you pass them by.

Taxis from Matheran to Neral, Mumbai and Pune are available at the Dasturi car parking.Mini bus from Neral-Matheran and Matheran-Neral is also available.
